For over fifteen years, guided by Father Richard Carton, Deirdre Nemeth has dedicated her life to helping Catholic families rediscover the beauty and power of the Mass.
In 2011, Deirdre attended a national convention on religious education. Directors of faith formation from every corner of the United States shared the same exasperation: parents make a commitment to bring their children to religious education classes, but do not make the same commitment to come to Mass every Sunday.
The statistics were staggering — approximately 80% of Catholic religious education students abandon their Sacrament of Confirmation and their Catholic faith by their early twenties. Traditional classroom-only models were failing to inspire families toward a living, sacramental faith.
What if, instead of treating Mass as separate from religious education, we made the Eucharist the very center of it?
That question became the seed of everything that followed. Father Richard and Deirdre began developing a radically different approach at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Stirling, New Jersey — one that would bring entire families together around the altar, not just into a classroom.
Deirdre Nemeth has served as a Director of Faith Formation in the Diocese of Paterson since 2010 — first for eleven years at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Stirling, New Jersey, and as of 2024 at Our Lady of the Lake in Sparta.
She has served on the board of the Catechetical Leaders Association for the Diocese of Paterson as President, Vice President, and Member-at-Large. She holds a Master's in Pastoral Ministry from Immaculate Conception Seminary, School of Theology, Seton Hall University.
Beyond her professional ministry, Deirdre is a devoted wife, the proud mother of two adult children, and a beloved son-in-law. Her vocation as a parent has deeply informed her approach to faith formation — she understands firsthand the joys and challenges of raising children in the Catholic faith.

Father Richard and Deirdre's mission is simple but transformative: to help parishes restructure their faith formation programs so that the Mass — not the classroom — becomes the heart of Catholic education for families.
They believe that when families experience the presence of Jesus during Mass together, God takes hold of them and enlightens them. The classroom supports what happens at the altar, not the other way around.
